Session description:

The stability of infrastructure is essential to social and economic activity in cold regions. Foundation engineering in seasonally and permanently frozen ground under a changing climate presents many challenges at various stages of engineering, including site characterization, analysis and design, construction, and performance monitoring during operations. The development of adaptive strategies as well as engineering tools to support infrastructure design is much needed.

We invite papers providing insight into the latest knowledge and development on: 1) innovative frozen ground cooling technologies; 2) innovative construction methods and monitoring technologies 3) short-term, long-term thermal and mechanical stability of frozen ground (modeling and field measurement); 4) risk assessments and adaptive strategy in response to climate change; and 5) other related topics within this theme.
