Welcome Letter

The 12th International Conference on Permafrost (ICOP 2022) will be held in Lanzhou, China, from June 20-24, 2022. The conference theme is "Permafrost environments under persistent warming: Challenges for scientific assessment and engineering practice". On behalf of the local organizing committee, I warmly invite you to attend ICOP 2022.

Lanzhou is a beautiful city with a population of more than 3 million. It is in the geographical centre of China and is located on the upper reaches of the Yellow River. It is the permafrost research hub of China.

Lanzhou is the capital city of Gansu Province. Historically, it was a major stop on the ancient "Silk Road" west from Xi'an because of its proximity to the Hexi Corridor. This is where early Chinese civilization began. Agriculture started in the area about 3,000 years ago during the Zhou Dynasty and this was the beginning of the great Yellow River basin civilization. How to Get to ICOP

ICOP 2020 will be held in Lanzhou University (LZU) which is in the downtown of Lanzhou City of Gansu Province, P. R. China. There are numerous internal air connections to Lanzhou airport from Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Urumqi or other gateway cities. Lanzhou is also an important railway hub in China so it is possible to reach Lanzhou by train from other cities as well.

By Air

There are regular airport buses running between the downtown and the airport. The bus tickets can be purchased at the airport. The terminus in downtown for the airport bus is the Lanzhou Railway Station, but the next-to-last stop is the Oriental Hotel (also called as Lanzhou Eastern Hotel) which is located adjacent to Lanzhou University. The cost of bus ticket is less than $5.

By Train

Lanzhou has rail connections to all over China and some of the lines are with high-speed service.
